Join SWISS International Air Lines’ OPSD team as a Senior Software Engineer (AI/ML & OR), turning advanced architectures into production software. Own and scale GCP, ML pipelines, numerical optimizers, and aviation data engineering for reliable AI/ML and Operations Research models.

Starting date: January 01, 2027

Tasks

Partner with the Lead Principal Software Engineer and OR Lead to deliver reliable solvers, ML models, serverless data platforms, and GenAI applications. Mentor engineers, lead rigorous code reviews, and uphold high engineering standards across the team. 

  • Software & Data Engineering: Design & implement reusable and testable Python and SQL solutions, scalable microservices, and robust ETL/ELT pipelines for multi-source aviation data, model training, and real-time inference.
  • AI/ML & Optimization: Partner with Lead OR and others to Implement, containerize, deploy, and operate ML models and high-performance numerical solvers with OR and data science experts.
  • Cloud Infrastructure & Operations: Collaborate with Lead Architect to provision, secure, monitor, and optimize serverless data products, reliable, cost-efficient GCP services and microservices using Terraform.
  • Engineering Excellence: Uphold high standards, lead peer code reviews, strengthen automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and mentoring through guidance and pair programming.

Requirements

  • Education & Experience: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer or Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience, plus 6+ years in software engineering, architecture, and database design.
  • Python & SQL: 3+ years building production ML, MLOps, or microservices in Python and 5+ years in SQL, data warehousing, performance tuning, and robust ETL/ELT processes.
  • GCP Delivery: Hands-on expertise with Cloud Run, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Terraform, CI/CD, code reviews, and automated testing.
  • Optimization & GenAI: Experience or interest in Docker, Kubernetes, numerical solvers, OR optimizers, and frameworks such as LlamaIndex, ADK, or multi-agent environments.
  • Collaboration: Agile experience, strong Product collaboration, aviation interest, and C1/C2 English.
