The key responsibilities and duties of the Tool Maker include, but are not limited to:
- Manufacture, service, and repair precision tools, jigs, and fixtures to support aerospace production and new product development
- Operate manual machine tools (lathes, milling, grinders, boring machines) with fine tolerances
- Interpret technical drawings and instructions to produce high-precision components
- Use precision measurement tools to ensure dimensional accuracy
- Maintain and modify existing tooling for optimal performance
- Support prototype assembly and testing through custom tooling solutions
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve technical issues
- Keep detailed records of tooling activities and comply with health, safety, and quality standards
- Adhere to environmental and regulatory requirements
- Train and mentor junior team members as needed
- Utilize basic computer tools for documentation and tracking
- Take ownership of quality and accuracy with minimal supervision
The ideal Candidate should meet the following requirements:
- GCSE level or equivalent
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Skilled in milling or turning machines with strong blueprint reading ability
- Problem-solver with excellent planning and organisational skills
- Team player with clear communication, able to collaborate across departments
- Self-driven, adaptable, and focused on continuous improvement
- Workshop experience essential; tool room experience preferred
- Basic welding knowledge (Gas, MIG, TIG, Stick) a plus

Working Conditions
