The key responsibilities and duties of the Trainee Machinist include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate a Variety of Machines to perform assigned tasks, you will produce or repair precision parts using both manual and automated equipment (CNC) and accurate measuring instruments
  • Read and Review paperwork, drawings and Instructions to understand specifications of output
  • Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job
  • Take accurate measurements using micrometres, Vernier callipers, height gauges etc.
  • Set up, operate and maintain machine tools
  • Monitor machine while working to adjust the speeds and feeds and make set up changes if necessary
  • Perform routine machine coolant checks, maintenance and tooling checks
  • Operate overhead Crane

The ideal Trainee Machinist should meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum GCSE level or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken English
  • Qualification in an engineering subject would be desirable
  • Illustrate previous knowledge and experience in Machine Shop/ Engineering Facility
  • Good awareness and understanding of PPE
  • Previous experience with CNC or manual Machine Tools desirable, but not essential
  • Able to use their own initiative
  • Good communicato r- ability to communicate with staff on business, and other issues that affect the business
  • Monday to Friday (Double day 06:30-14:30 / 14:30-22:30)
  • Occasional loud noises from machinery and other production department activity
  • Must be willing to work shifts
